Essential Products Inc. Lays Off 30% Of Staff

Essential Products Inc., the startup founded by the creator of Android Andy Rubin, has cut almost 30% of its employees, according to Bloomberg. Rubin started the company in 2015 to introduce a smartphone with premium features that wasn’t related to a particular operating system provider. The company rolled out its first smartphone in August 2017, which was a few weeks later than it was initially promised.

Cuts were especially deep in hardware and manufacturing. The organization’s web page shows it has around 120 employees. “This has been a troublesome choice to make. We are extremely sorry for the impact on our employees who are leaving the organization and are doing all that we can to assist them with their future careers,” an Essential representative wrote in an email. “We are sure that our sharpened product focus will enable us to deliver a cutting-edge consumer product.”

The decreases were principally made in the startup’s hardware and sales divisions and influenced around 30 percent of the workforce, as per the individuals acquainted with the subject matter.

The cuts come a long time after the organization canceled production of its second smartphone model in May 2018 and delayed development of a home device that would rival Amazon.com Inc. and Google.
